Mobile gamers in India will have a shot at a prize pool worth over INR 12 Lakhs – approximately $17,787 – thanks to a new online racing championship from Gameloft and OnePlus. The championship, called the OnePlus Asphalt Cup, will center around Gameloft’s Asphalt 8: Airborne and will be spread out over 4 weeks for all participants beginning June 13. Unlike other online gaming contests, this one will be time-based instead of putting the emphasis on knocking other players out of the competition. That means players can play as much as they like and the goal is to be the top-scoring player when all’s said and done. Five winners will be chosen each week and will receive a pair of OnePlus Bullets wireless Bluetooth headphones, while the top 25 will get exclusive “goodies” from the two companies. Presumably, the rankings will be reset each week in an attempt to offset the chances that any given player will walk away with the prize more than once. There’s no word on what those “goodies” might include.
However, the main prize for the cumulative event is far more intriguing. The top three positions of the overall month-long competition will split a combined prize pool of INR 9 Lakhs. That’s equivalent to around $4,449 per player. They’ll also receive the smartphone manufacturer’s latest smartphone, the OnePlus 6, and a pair of OnePlus Bullets Wireless Bluetooth headphones. From Gameloft, participants will have access to exclusive in-game rewards worth around INR 20 Million every week of the event – which ends on July 8. That’s a relatively hefty prize-pool and a unique format for this type of online competitive gaming event so anybody in India who plays the game regularly is definitely going to give it a shot.
As to the main prize, the OnePlus 6 is the company’s latest flagship Android handset. The device features a 6.28-inch notched display set at an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 2280. Although it’s available with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, the company hasn’t indicated which version will be given away. It’s also available with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. Regardless of which capacities OnePlus is passing out, that will be driven by the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC, running Android 8.1 Oreo underneath OnePlus’ OxygenOS skin. It will also feature a 3,300mAh battery with OnePlus’ fast charging and dual-sensor primary camera rated at 16 and 20-megapixel. The user-facing side features a 16-megapixel shooter. Fingerprint scanning, face recognition, and a 3.5mm headphone jack is also a part of that package. Finally, it isn’t clear whether the company will hand out Midnight Black, Mirror Black, and Silk White versions of the handset.Sign Up For The OnePlus Asphalt Cup Google play
