Google Pixel 4a Picks More Certifications, Launch Imminent

Google Pixel 4a XL render leak featured

The Google Pixel 4a has picked up one more necessary certification as the company prepares for its launch. The affordable Pixel smartphone has received approval from the competent authority in Singapore (IMDA). It was previously spotted at the FCC as well as the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) with the same model number, G025N.

The IMDA certification doesn't reveal anything new but further hints at an imminent launch. As you can see in the screengrab below, the Google Pixel 4a will be a 4G device with NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, and Bluetooth support. There's no 5G support here and that's already known.

The handset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset that doesn't offer 5G connectivity. It is an octa-core processor featuring two high-performance Kryo 470 Gold cores operating at 2.2 GHz and six Kryo 470 Silver power-efficient cores operating at 1.8 GHz.

Google Pixel 4a rumored specs

The Pixel 4a is a mid-range compact smartphone from Google. As per previous leaks and rumors, the handset will feature a 5.81-inch punch-hole AMOLED display of Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset is paired with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB/128GB UFS 2.1 storage. The handset may come in multiple memory configurations.

For photography, the upcoming Google smartphone gets a 12-megapixel Sony IM363 camera at the back. The selfie camera is an 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 sensor.

A 3,080 mAh battery fuels this phone, which has a plastic body. It comes with 18W wired fast charging via the USB Type-C port.

A 3.5mm headphone jack, rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor, and Android 10 are also part of the package. The handset supports dual SIM. The Pixel 4a may arrive with a starting price ranging between $349 to $399.

The Google Pixel 4a was initially rumored to be arriving at the Google I/O conference in May. However, the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the event was canceled. The Android 11 Beta show also didn't bring the new Pixel smartphone.

Rumors are that Google will now announce the handset on Monday, July 13. So it won't be a too-long wait now.

However, the handset may not go on sale until October. Google is reportedly holding off the handset's release because of the market situation. So we'll have to wait and see how the situation changes over the next few months.

Just to make it clear, the Google Pixel 4a obtaining the BIS certification doesn't necessarily mean that it'll arrive in the Indian market. Although it's suggestive of that, we'll have to wait for the company for the official confirmation.
