Vewd Showcases Its Future-Ready Smart TV OS – CES 2018

Over-the-top solutions provider Vewd has now announced a brand new operating system for smart TVs called Vewd OS via the ongoing consumer electronics expo commonly referred to as CES 2018. For clarity, Vewd has been in the connected display software solutions industry for some time and has clients ranging from Samsung and Sony to TiVo and Verizon. However, this new announcement appears to center around the very first creation of the company’s own branded operating system for connected televisions. The OS will launch at an unspecified date this year but the company is also providing a sneak peek at CES through January 11. Those demonstrations are, unfortunately, scheduled by appointment so any television tech industry insiders who want to see it for themselves will need to navigate to to set one up.

In the meantime, the company’s new Vewd OS is entering the market to solve what Vewd says is a problem with modern streaming solutions. Although there are dozens of app-enabled smart TVs across various brands on the market already, the company wants to bring further competition to connected device streaming. Namely, it wants to compete with the array of TV dongles and supplementary hardware add-ons many users buy in order to stream content to their living rooms. According to the company, the OS features on the consumer side unites video-on-demand with live TV, native internet content, and over a thousand leading apps in a single, easy to use interface. That interface is also said to be both immersive in its focus on the video content itself, while also dynamic in allowing for further content discovery. It features a new kind of program guide as well, the company says, and that fully integrates all of the content on offer – both new and previously aired – and is controllable by either remote or voice. Meanwhile, that’s all driven by cloud-based app access which is intended to remove the difficulties associated with downloading apps and updating those that are already downloaded.

As to what Vewd OS has to offer to the manufacturers behind smart television sets, the company says its solution allows after-sales monetization, full control over collected user data and platform analytics, as well as early to follow and consistent software update release cycles. Beyond that, the OS is said to be flexible enough to be included as an all-in-one package or with a more modular approach, with optimization already in place across dozens of major smart TV semiconductor platforms. Each solution offers tools for branding customization, as well, which Vewd says are easy to use in order to get the final results a given manufacturer is looking for in its U.I. and functionality.
